From: Brian O'Halloran[Back]
In 1979, when Opera Hamilton was created, I was asked if I would like to be a supernumerary - a non-singing performer on stage. Over the last 25 years, in over 60 operas, I have had numerous parts and have since been given the task of Supernumerary Captain, in charge of the rest of the supernumeraries. If not onstage in an opera, I am backstage as a production assistant.
There have been some memorable parts that I have played, for example in Tosca 1992, I was a Priest in the first act, a Judge in the second act and the Captain of the Firing Squad in the last act – this meant I blessed Cavardosi, sentenced him and had him shot. In Macbeth 1994, I played King Duncan, who’s throat
was cut by Lady Macbeth, and was carried on stage on a litter with a white face and my throat covered in fake blood.
